Brisbanes tunnels to be some of the best protected in Australia. In recent months there have been reports of some people being shot at by men on motorbikes from the main areas of the tunnel.

The tunnels were built using a process called metalloidization. A metalloidizer heats, breaks and chemically purifies copper by mixing hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur into a solution. The metalloidizer also removes zinc.

The tunnels are now being used by miners under the Goldfields Freeport in western Sydney and Port Hedland Freeport in western Melbourne to access gold mining areas.

"We don't want the people of West Sydney to get hurt, so our approach has been to keep them separated to avoid any potential for harm." Dr Chris Burdon.

Dr Chris Burdon from the Goldfields Freeport said it was the best tunnel of its kind in Australia.

"They are extremely well protected by metal detectors, police officers and CCTV and no criminal intent is ever taken into account," Dr Burdon said.

The tunnels are not open to anyone, including school children or security guards.

At night, residents of West Sydney must stay on their balconies or walls for protection against falling.

"We haven't seen anything this bad since the Great Depression," Dr Burdon said.

Police told The Advertiser there were two incidents on the tunnels and the one in Sydney caused no injuries.

The tunnels are also accessible to public ferry services on weekdays from 9:30am to 4pm.

Dr Burdon's husband is a mine worker in the Goldfields Freeport and he said he was told there was no danger.

"We understand this is a new kind of business, this is a new age of mining, we're talking some of the newest technologies here at the moment and we're not used to that kind of technology," Dr Burdon said.

Dr Burdon said it was a case of a young man taking a gamble without the knowledge or forewarning.

"My son and his best mate and everyone else is just like this. Everybody has a bit of a gamble. You know, if you don't know how you're gonna do it then it becomes a gamble, you know, for us, a gamble."

Stolen monkey found safe in darwin

Police have found a monkey safe in Melbourne after the police, animal welfare officials and wildlife officers discovered a monkey safe in a garden in the backyard of an apartment building in Darnley Drive in the suburb of Sturt. Police said a gardener from a nearby home had come across the animal in a garden shed. They believe it is a rescued monkey, which has been rescued, police said. It is currently believed the monkey came out of a shed where it was fed and then was taken to the Sturt Animal Sanctuary for care. Animal welfare officials will examine the animal when its welfare is fully assessed.

Wa proposes battered womens defence for murder trial – but doesn't think it will pass

A woman whose boyfriend beat her with a stick and threw her off the balcony at the High Commission Hotel in Southwark has described how he told her he would kill her, before finally abandoning her to die in an empty bath.

The 22-year-old victim of the attack on February 18, 2005 was found dead, covered in bruises, shortly after the pair got into an argument.

After the tragedy, her parents, who lived next door to the victim's family, filed a wrongful death action against Mr and Mrs Kettling.

It is claimed Ms Kettling suffered a broken nose, a fractured cheekbone and her right eye has been removed.

Jurors heard police have now said that if she had been alive, she would not have tried to escape.

In court, she told the court how she was with her boyfriend, Mr Kettling, at a friend's house that night when "a man standing beside" her said: "You could hear 'I love you, I love you, I love you'.

"I started crying and he said: 'I've killed her'."

Ms Kettling says she tried to escape but was kicked up onto the balcony and beaten to the ground, then hit in the head with a brick.

When he returned from the bathroom with a box, she says he attacked her while she was pinned in place.

She recalls: "He punched me in the face and head and I tried to get away. Then he went to open the box and started throwing punches at me. I was being punched in the head, my cheekbone."

She says they had gone on a date that night but her boyfriend "left the hotel because I started crying." She had been told he would come back that day to "help me find my own way".

Mr Kettling had previously admitted causing her death when he came home a few minutes earlier from a nightclub and found the victim unconscious on the balcony.

According to the coroner's report, after beating and kicking her, "he tried to escape again" and again came back from the bathroom. When he arrived she was pinned under the back balcony with her face against it.

But, as his girlfriend fell, he ran out in an attempt to hide her body.

Ms Kettling, now 22, said: "I remember the first second or two when I was on the balcony and the second second when he started to get out of the bathroom. I remember waking up after my boyfriend beat me.

Labor green lights power sell offs

This week the Abbott government is expected to pass the Fair Work Commission Amendment Bill. This Bill is set to be put through parliament next week with Labor's support. A key element of the Bill is a change to the Fair Work law that will allow businesses to decide whether or not they need to seek approval from the fair work agency before firing employees.

Under the current rules, employees are only allowed to be let go at their employer's request. This means most Australian workers aren't covered by the law. The Fair Work Act requires employers to seek approval from Fair Work Australia before terminating employees. However, since the Fair Work changes, it has been widely assumed that if you're not fired from a job within three months, you can ask for your job back within eight months. It's an extraordinary proposition that would change much of the work culture in workplaces if applied to all employees at all workplaces in Australia. The Fair Work legislation does not give an employee an automatic right to ask for their job back and instead requires an employer to seek approval from Fair Work. This means that if you need your job back immediately, but find you have a new employer, it could be a very difficult one. The changes to the Fair Work legislation will change all of this. Under the bill, employers who are unable to get permission from Fair Work, but who wish to remove employees before being fired will have to ask for permission from their Fair Work application, which will be accepted when applied. This applies to any Australian company. In addition, it means that if a company wants to remove a worker, they would only have to ask for permission from their Fair Work application before doing so. The Labor government's proposal will also mean that any worker who is fired after three months would lose all entitlements.

So, it will be very challenging to keep those employees out. However, the Labor Government is committed to retaining some of those protections that some in the workforce already have. However, these reforms will also mean that there will be significant cuts to government funds allocated for public servants that do not need to ask for permission to remove employees. The proposed changes to the fair work legislation will be made retroactive for any employee at any time during the course of their employment. The changes in the legislation would only apply to individuals and companies that are exempt from the Fair Work Act.

And this is an important point. While the majority of employees currently have the same employment rights as other Australians, this is changing. This means it is incredibly important for all employees to be aware of the changes coming to the Fair Work Act, and the implications that a new law, with its retroactive changes to the legislation, has for them.

Perth family charged with cultivating cannabis during trip

The family from Perth, who spent over $25,000 on cannabis in a five-day marijuana trip, have been charged with cultivating the drug during their recent holiday.

The Perth man, who cannot be named, is one of two men who were charged with cultivating cannabis on board the ferry in the early hours of November 12, 2016.

The charges relate to two people who were on the ferry when the charges were laid.

They are all facing an extensive range of charges including cultivating and trafficking in cannabis.

The group of people on board the ferry when it was seized include a 17-year-old boy, a man in his 40s and a 28-year-old woman.

The 18-year-old from North Perth and the 27-year-old from Port Stephens are among a group who were part of a group of people charged during the trip.

All the men are being held without bail in the District Court.

Pretoria woman charged in Perth cannabis bust

The 20-year-old from Pretoria is also being charged with cultivation of cannabis and an earlier charge for trafficking.

A 30-year-old woman from nearby South Perth is also facing a charge.

Both men who were part of the group are due to appear in the court in Pretoria at a later date.

Police say the 17-year-old from North Perth is currently in custody.

In a statement a South Australia police spokesman said "there is no evidence to suggest the group has ever been involved in offences".

They say the men had planned their trip in advance.

Fire bans extended as qld bushfires rage on

Residents who live in Brisbane's CBD and its surrounds are being urged to flee to higher ground when high winds and smoke continue to roll down the Brisbane hills.

"We're hearing there are high winds... we need to stay outside," Brisbane City Council's spokesman Stephen Williams told 9NEWS.

"It's a risk to life, property and vehicles."

Brisbane's Mayor Clover Moore has put a 24-hour evacuation order in place for all residents in Brisbane's suburbs.

Brisbane City Council was also issuing evacuation warnings around a suburb called Beaumont.

"The city is telling people not to enter. It's a one-way street for residents who live and work in these areas," Ms Moore said.

She said residents could be staying in the nearby city of Port Stephens, which had its own wind warning issued and also advised residents to move to safer ground.

As the smoke reached higher ground, people in areas affected should seek help, and seek to get to as low a place as possible, Ms Moore said.

But the Brisbane City Council was warning people to be prepared for the possibility of severe thunderstorms as high winds continued.

Mayor Williams said people should stay indoors and not attempt to escape the danger if they want to.

There are at least nine fires raging in Brisbane's south and a number of smaller blazes in the inner west.

Serena forfeits to stosur. She attempts a suplex but is quickly countered by stosur and she falls to the floor.

The crowd cheers for Serena as she tries again, this time she drops to the bottom. She then drops to the bottom again before coming back up.

As the match continues, Stosur continues to punish Serena. She continues to pressure her with knees and body slaps. She continues to be unblockable. Stosur throws a knee and Stosur lands on top of Serena. Stosur attempts to land a high flying knee but gets blocked by a superkick from Serena and a back elbow from Serena. And yesterday the Conservative government announced it had dropped the appeal after the judge rejected his arguments.

Mr Evans told BBC Radio 4's Today: "I am absolutely delighted that today I am going to be finally going into court as the case against me has been dropped.

"And it has been settled in the past, with my lawyers who are in front of my court with a view to the ultimate payment of £1m against me - because the High Court in 2008 denied my petition for judicial review, and when the Court of Appeal ruled that I won, we are going to try and apply that principle of our right for compensation now."

The government has announced the new system will also allow judges to allow Mr Evans a greater degree of separation from those involved in his case.

It also promises to hold a Royal Commission into corporate tax avoidance, with the former prime minister's successor and Sir Reginald Barclay being included on the panel's inquiry.
